Neal & Nettie’s Grocery Wins 2024
StartHER Grant from Texas Woman’s University
Houston, TX – October 29, 2024 – Neal & Nettie’s Grocery is proud to announce it has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 StartHER Grant awarded by Texas Woman’s University’s Center for Women Entrepreneurs. The competitive grant recognizes high-potential women-owned startups across Texas and provides funding to help launch or grow early-stage businesses.
The grant was officially awarded on October 29, 2024, and has already fueled significant progress for the Neal & Nettie’s team. Funds were used to activate a previously unused lot in Houston’s Kashmere Gardens and establish a thriving community garden—bringing healthy, affordable food to an area long impacted by food access challenges. The award also enabled the team to attend the National Grocers Association Conference in Las Vegas, expanding their network and learning from grocers across the country.
“This grant gave us our first true lift-off,” said Cecile Wright, CEO of Neal & Nettie’s Grocery. “It helped us transform an empty space into a place where food, dignity, and opportunity can grow. We’re honored to be part of a cohort of women business owners who are actively building solutions in their communities.”
The TWU StartHER Grant is part of the university’s broader commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs. With only 25 recipients selected statewide, the honor places Neal & Nettie’s among a powerful group of Texas-based change-makers.
